Can’t wait to travel with all your gear?
Maybe you got hired as a wedding photographer, maybe you are flying home for Christmas. Maybe you are just visiting friends. In any case, use this list before you pack.
1. Before you start packing, just know that anything precious or expensive should be with you at all times, under your feet or over your head.
My camera bag Must be able to fit 3 DSLRs, five lenses and two flashes if I am doing a wedding. I use this gear packer in a regular carry on suitcase to fit all of my gear.
2. All lithium batteries must be in carry-on an not check.
I take over 40 batteries of different kinds with me to a wedding. I have to make sure that they are all bagged up and set aside for TSA might delay your checked back.
3. Where do you put your clothes?
I was able to pack three day worth of clothes in my carry on bag. My checked back had my tripods (which I use for light stands with these converter pieces), my softboxes, my video lights and my brackets.
4. Give your self extra time for security as your stuff might be stopped at the x Ray machines.
I travel with three kinds of chargers, my laptop and external hard drives, so I need to be at the airport early!!!!
5. Only take essential gear for your trip.
You might want to go through everything the day before and leave stuff at home that you don’t need- like filters, covers, brackets and such.
6. Also, make sure that you get insure on all your essential gear.
For businesses, I use the Hartford. If you are a hobbyist, getting valuable personal property insurance will save your @$$ later if gear walks away. Also I use the app gear vault to store all my serial numbers, receipts and insurance claims.
Now, are you ready to fly with your gear? Glad we could help you pack for success.
